  Photos from the Skirophória

from the Hellenion Proto-Demos tes Hagnes Persephones, 17 June 2006

We had a truly beautiful ritual that day during a 3-day pagan gathering near Clarion PA.

Here is our altar we set up for the ritual.  In the back are a red amphora of water, jar of barley, charcoal grill with incense burner immediately in front of it, and olive oil & wine to the right.  Across the middle are statues of the 4 deities being honored that day.  Far left is Athena, then Poseidon (who is difficult to see in this photo). To to right of the incense burner is Demeter, and the far right is Apollon.  In the very front of the altar are the offerings: flowers, food suck as grapes, garlic, meats, and on the right is the basket of barley with the sacrificial knife buried underneath.

Close-up of the altar after we had thrown the barley and made the first few offerings on the grill.

Left: The priest pours a wine libation.   Right: A guest offers the incense.

Here the priestess (myself) reads selections from the Orphic Hymns to each of the 4 deities.

Here the priest makes the final offering, which is garlic.  After this he pours the last wine libation, but we did not take a photo of that.

The script from the ritual is posted here.
