Photos from the Gamelia Ritual

  Gamelía Photos

from the Hellenion Proto-Demos tes Hagnes Persephones, 30 Jan. 2006

It ended up that I performed this ritual by myself.  I made a few adjustments in the script, as it had been written for a group.  I took a few pictures during the ritual to post here.

Here is the altar.  The altar candle is in the center, with a peacock fan behind it.  On the left is a framed image of Zeus and Hera together.  On the right is a larger frame with images of both Zeus and Hera.  I also added the large column on the left, just to “balance out” the altar.

At this point in the ritual, the barley has already been offered, as well as the first libation.  The barely is in the small dish.  The small brown bowl is for libations, and the blue vase obviously holds the rest of the libation yet to be offered.

This photo was taken after the ritual had ended.  You will see on the right the incense has been added to the altar, and on the right flowers have been placed as a votive offering.

During the ritual, I played music by Haris Alexiou.  (She is a well-known Greek singer with a beautiful voice.)

The ritual itself was very beautiful.  If you are interested in reading it, the script is posted here.
